Week 7 Exam
Well the dog did fairly good, handler not so much. Considering we were in a higher distraction area I wasn’t complaining about his performance. And I don’t know why he is so sensitive to the string? He has wore to a of lines on him. At one time I didn’t get it off of him good enough and he just couldn’t handle it. Weird dog. I know he moved on one of his sit stays and broke his down stay when I returned to him. Honestly, I was happy he only did that once. We will just keep working on it.

ReplyDeleteJett did great, so too did you Trina. Kat will provide feedback, but well done.
ReplyDelete🫣 I didn't see anything😉
Trina, that was so good! You and Jett are a great team!
ReplyDeleteSee what? :D
ReplyDeleteJett is such a good little dog, and you are an incredible handler. Jett tells us what a great handler you are by how much he respects and feels safe with you. Even though it's hard to see his eyes, I could tell just how much he checked in with you to make sure he was in the right place and to gain confidence from you. Wonderful work, Trina.
One suggestion-- remember the Exercise Finish, and to release Jett with a release word (I use 'okay') *before* you celebrate with him. I was celebrating, too, by the way! I love how he picks up his feet when he runs toward you.
I'm sorry this is SO tardy- thank you for being patient with me!
I forgot to add- as you know, I have also struggled with my dog breaking into a sit when I return to her. I was considering this, and how to reinforce the down-stay... and then 'Reinforce' took me right to Roxanne's reinforcing exercises. I think I need to practice, more, leaving Niko in a down stay and then working diminishing circles and many returns and right steps to reinforce that down means down, and when I return, it doesn't necessarily mean she had to be ready to GO.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat. This past week we have been proofing down stays which is one of his struggles. He is getting better at understanding that he needs to stay in a down until the EF. But still not perfect. Diminishing circles is also a good idea to help stabilize the down. Thanks for that thought.
