7-26-2022 FC Week 2, Day 3
QUITE THE INSANE MORNING!!!!!
EVEN HIGHER DISTRACTIONS THAN THE BOUNCING BALLS WAS THIS CRAZY SETUP IN A PUBLIC PARK NO LESS
Then time for Scrambled Heeling
Ruth, AKA 'Pigpen'
Gave Ruth several hours to sleep off the morning training session, then did some lovely defrosted, stinky dead duck marks.
I know that duck is up there!
BUT I can smell that duck!

7-27-2022 FC Week 2, Day 4
There are multiple videos of today's Week 5 obedience class. Also, Ruth was 'the distraction' for a Lesson 7, Part 2 HOLD EXAM with student Loni/Shadow her GSD. Yup, Ruth WAS my Demo Dog. She did great!
>The HOLD and a Pass!
================================================================
Well, here we are at Week 5! This will be a very interesting week for sure. Today I met with Roxanne and Loni. They talked about and demonstrated what Week 5 entails.
Loni and Shadow are a great team. They demonstrated what the Vickster’s test looks like. Then there’s little Ruth. She was an incredible demo dog today. She even did things that she have not been introduced to at this point in her training.

7-28-2022 FC Week 2, Day 5
Since Ruth is a spectator to ALL of this morning's training, I include that here as part of her continuing education and learning.
This is Week 5 material, the fix for the flared Sit
The first training session is rough as Ruth isn't sure, AT ALL, about the KISS Sit Correction.
Pack Run
then Cavallities
Of course, Ruth 'found' Kara's db and so we did a smidge of play retrieve with it there at the truck.
After that training session, we headed to the Monroe Lions Park as they have an elevated concreate stage, under cover, which I particulary like using for training a learning dog.
Heeling and KISS Sit Corrections, Take 2
And many, many hours later, we did Heeling and Kiss Sit Corrections, Take 3. The mechanics haven't registered yet with Ruth. Tomorrow is another day.

FC Week 2, Day 7
Redd charged those PIGS. What a stupid thing to do. So, I opted to work her AGAINST those pigs. She had surgery only 1 week ago, so I had to train without any BIG LL corrections. What a training session!
Then I worked Ruth. She did NOT charge those PIGS, but she had a hissie fit at me working her towards those PIGS. Earned her first "OUT!" for her inappropriate behavior.
Then I worked Ruth against the lamb and goats in VERY tight quarters.
Many, many hours later, we did this training session. Still no comprehension in Ruth reading my mechanics and understanding what to do.
So, I came up with this unusual approach as Ruth does know how to 'target' a Place Board and do a Sit.It worked-:0 Finally, a way to help her succeed as her Sit muscle memory is acquired.

Ruth had an official 'day off' on Monday, August 1st.

8-5-2022 FC Week 2, Day 13, Yet again, another Tunnel of Love
The warm-up LL in VERY HIGH distractions
Kara works on her "HOLD"
Molly works on her Recall to SSIF
Ruth and yet another ToL. She's been on anti-diarrhea meds for 2 days and it isn't curing the issue.
Still this was a very good effort

8-6-2022 FC Week 2, Day 14, FINALLY Ruth has the AS
This was a first for me as I've never had to do over 500 Sits to get the Auto Sit with ANY dog before Ruth this past 2 weeks. But, the diarrhea, despite my home remedies and the vet's anti-diarrhea pill twice a day, continued.
How can that affect a young dog's ability to learn the AS? Being ill affects the dog's ability to focus and that is what I observed over and over and over again with Ruth this past week since she got sick.
While she still did normal things, her ability to focus and really learn my mechanics for the Auto Sit simply did NOT connect for her. This session on Thursday was NOT good at all-:(
She went to the vet again yesterday, Friday 8-5, got x-rayed as well as had blood drawn so we could ck her. She did great and turns out she has a VERY tiny stone inside, but that will pass. BUT she has a VERY inflamed colon.
Yup, she's nearly 40 lbs right now.
So last night she went on more meds, got more protein, chix and quinoa (blood work shows she's low which after having diarrhea for a week would deplete any dog of protein), and just a 2 mile hike up the mountain this morning.
Alongside the road this morning. Three BEAUTIFUL bucks!
At the top of the hike, the clouds in the valley look like water, don't they?
Got home, let her play with Redd while I did some gardening, then kenneled her before doing yet another Week 2 ToL EXAM.
THIS TIME RUTH WAS ABLE TO FOCUS ON MY MECHANICS AND 'READ' WHAT I WANTED HER TO DO, THE AUTO SITS.
Watch closely the attention I get from Ruth in this sequence.
YES, THIS IS A VERY LONG POST. However, it documents what it took for Ruth to learn the AS. Over 500 AS's, whew, but as you all know, her AS is THE BEST of all the dogs. Perhaps doing AS for 2 weeks IS how one trains a young dog to learn Heel position and the HALT well?

ReplyDeleteFood for thought.
